Field Technician I
Hourly Rate: $28.00/hour + travel

Chinook Contract Research is seeking a candidate to fill the role of part-time, on call, contract research assistant. The research assistant will support a larger research team monitoring a herd of cattle for signs of disease, tracking, and treating the animals in conjunction with a research study on different treatment methods. This position is in the Airdrie, Alberta area and is for open term contract. Chinook Contract Research is a Canadian research group interested in animal health and medical device development.
The ideal candidate for this role will possess an Animal Health Technology Diploma (AHT or RVT) or similar credentials in animal handling and research. The ability to communicate with the producer and research members effectively as well as possessing a high degree of attention to detail is essential. The candidate will have a demonstrated ability for critical thinking as well as being a highly motivated self-starter with creative problem-solving skills. A valid driver's license and access to a vehicle is required.
A typical schedule will involve daily morning health checks of and field team support of sampling of calves in select pens at a local farm. Samples will be collected and prepared for shipping for analysis via a local veterinary clinic. Tasks are typically anticipated to take up to 4 hours per day, 2-4 days a week.
Relationships:
Reports to the Operations Manager. Works closely with the research team—particularly the field team, Producer, study veterinarian, Scientists and Laboratory Manager—in the completion of contract research and internal research programs.
Tasks:
· Supports CCR with laboratory or field work on an as needed/on-call basis.
· Execute experiments that are part of the company’s R&D program and its external contract research business. Process and organize the resulting data.
· Duties include, but are not limited to health assessments, administering outlined treatments, drawing blood, processing samples, sample collection, shipping samples, and maintaining health records.
· Performs other general field support as required (e.g. field work, sample handling and labelling, general laboratory support).
· Clean and maintain laboratory and relevant field equipment.
· Timely and accurate reporting of methods, data, and results.
· Other duties as required.
